Europe 1985 Trip

Between my junior and senior years of high school, I traveled through Europe with my friend Chad Johnson.  Here are some photos from that.  The captions were written 17 years later, so forgive me if they’re not totally accurate.

Chad practicing his French - he was very excited to try to pick up some French babes

Of course we were excited to get free drinks on the airplane

The streets of London

Some building in London, I’m sure

Chad posing, as he so often did

Here’s Chad inside a museum we visited

I think this dude was the original patron of the museum

Even at age 16, I was into architecture somewhat

London Bridge

Chad kicking back on a London streetside

The infamous Bankside Power Station - we got lost walking around one day and ended up here

We were impressed with the density of London

We never rode one, but I had to get a photo of the famous double decker bus

Bruce, our hostel roommate from Australia

Everyone looking for the Buckingham Palace guards

Tourist crowds in London

Me looking lost in front of the original Hard Rock Cafe - there was a several hour wait to get inside, so we didn’t bother

Finally arrived in France, this is a shot of the inside of Coco’s house - Chad is modeling next to one of the many family dogs

More of the inside of Coco’s house

The Brenner family had an unusually large pillow - it crushed Chad one day

Here is our friend Coco looking incredibly French

Here’s me and two of Coco’s friends - Valerie and Anne Marie

Everyone’s got to have a shitty photo of the Mona Lisa

And here is that famous statue from Italy

Chad showing off the impressive humidity detector at the Louvre

This display case was so funny I had to take a photo - it was closed for remodeling or something but had this wad of masking tape

I just can’t remember what building this was

Some other famous building in Paris

A Parisian river, perhaps?

Chad posed next to the world’s most famous phallic symbol

And another gratuitous tourist shot

The view from the observation platform at the Eiffel Tower

L’Arc de Triomphe

Chad demonstrating one use of the bidet in our hostel

We spent over a week between Cannes and Nice and I can’t remember which one this was

Here’s the back of my head showing the unusual haircut I got in Cannes

I can’t remember their names, but we met these German youth and hung out with the guy a fair amount

Now we’re in Venice

I loved these plazas in Venice

We met two young ladies from England in Venice and went to an art exhibit of Joan Miro with them

Here’s a gratuitous shot of a canal

More canals

The scenery in Switzerland reminded me a lot of Colorado and made me a little homesick

Once we arrived in Holland, we visited this miniature town

Here’s me and Joke (pronounced YO-kah) on a pedal powered contraption we drove around near the beach in Holland

Every visit to Holland must include a windmill - ours was no exception

Chad posing in front of “Wendy” in Munich - in Germany, the burger joint we call Wendy’s is just Wendy

The inside of some science and technology museum in Munich

This is a very famous clock tower in Munich

Yes, these mugs of beer were bigger than my head - yes, I was only 16 years old

Back to Alteckendorf, here’s a photo of Coco’s house from their courtyard (Bit Rot)
